"Hibernation"

Thaw the chill of her centerpiece;
barely breathing
but blood is still beating
between each vein and artery
the walls are contracting,
her face is still acting
as though she's on stage,
instead of this cage of her twenty-four ribs;
Take a deep breath.
Now.
Inhale.

These muscles relaxing,
the time is still passing,
while waking dreamers swindle time from the sleeping;
and she is still sleeping,
why is she sleeping?
Every rise and fall is less than before;
can't she take in the air?
Or is there no more?

Her lungs fill with ice
spreading over her eyes
each lash stopped its curl
as the crystals are formed,
her smile is frozen
and perhaps her lips twitch,
but no more;
Take a deep breath.
Now.
Exhale.
